What better way for a food-blogger to give?
January 15, 2010
Skip a meal, say a prayer, and donate the cost of the meal to relief efforts in Haiti (hat tip to Jennifer at Conversion Diary).
MSNBC has a list of real charities active in Haiti, so you can give without getting scammed (hat tip to Robin at Pensieve).

I would be interested to know what charities your readers are vested in or otherwise trusted with their donations to Haiti. I am partial to Compassion International myself. We do not sponsor a child in Haiti, but are thinking of doing so in the very near future. I think many agencies in the area are still trying to sort through the rubble, in a very literal way. One-time donations are vital; I just hope they don’t get forgotten when they stop making headlines.
I would also be interested in reading how this Slow Food Experiment has affected your grocery budget. You touched on it one time, saying you left the store spending ~ $40 or so less, if I recall? Also, are you and Az going to give any more updates on how it has affected your weight? (or general health?) I find this whole lifestyle fascinating. I just want to move to making breads from scratch, and I haven’t even managed that so far.
I gave to Catholic Relief Services, they are established in Haiti and their operations center was not damaged during the initial earthquake. Compassion has been doing great things too.
The way the Red Cross and other text donations work means that money will continue to come in, because the money is not collected until bills are paid (although the phone companies did provide an initial sum of money), so hopefully that will help with sustained relief efforts.
And I have yet to make my own bread too, even though it seems like the best first step towards better food in my home!
